Fayetteville, New York

Location

Fayetteville is a village located in the county of Onondaga, New York  and in the Town of Manlius only a few minutes from Syracuse and derives its name from a national hero of United States and France by a young nobleman from France who aided George Washington during the American Revolution– the Marquis de Lafayette.Fayetteville was first settled in 1792, (originally known as Manlius Four Corners). It was incorporated as a village in 1844, and renamed in honor of Marquis de Lafayette.

History

The first settlers arrived around 1792 to Fayetteville and it was described as a thriving and beautiful village by the New York Tribune, due to its importance in trade and business through the Erie Canal. Fayetteville also sits on precious limestone deposits from which cropped up mills and mines. Fayetteville was made official in 1844.

Demographics

The actual boundaries of Fayetteville extend beyond and into the town of Manlius and neighboring DeWitt. The village has a total area a 1.7 square miles. The median household income is $50,598. Median family income is reportedly $66,201. Only 1% of its population is below the poverty level. 81% of Fayetteville residents 25 and older have college degrees. Being a part of Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area, the village is sparsely populated with about four thousand residents, according to census of 2000. It is located in the town of Manlius, which is to the east of Syracuse.

Industries

Earlier, the water power from Limestone Creek was utilized by the industries but later, when a shallow power canal was formed; it became a more reliable source of power. Several mills, warehouses, farms, stores and local quarries benefited from the canal, leading to flourishing business. Today, the Towne Center is probably the largest assembly of businesses in the Fayetteville area. Shops, groceries, clothing, furniture and medical facilities are to be found here. The village area has, of course, a quaintness and old village feel with many small shops, restaurants, and facilities providing for every need.

Transportation

Fayetteville

first used electric trolley as a mode of transportation but later on, buses and automobiles were used by the commuters who worked in Syracuse offices and SyracuseUniversity.  In the later part of nineteenth century, many businesses like General Electric, Carrier and Bristol-Myers and many medical centers have become primary work places within a short drive of Fayetteville.

 Recreation and entertainment

Each neighborhood in Fayetteville has parks that provide space for playing and there are many farm fields and orchards. Significantly, Erie Canal is an important recreational spot where hiking is done. Apart from this, there is Green Lakes State Park which is situated in the eastern side of the village and has a part of primeval forest and strives hard to preserve it. Further, there are two lakes to offer enjoyment throughout the year.

Wild Life Sanctuary

The McLennan Wild Life Sanctuary is on Duguid Road and dedicated to the memory of Dr Roderick McLennan. He donated ten thousand dollars to purchase lands on the watershed above the springs and make the land wild life sanctuary for birds. The village appointed a Sanctuary Committee which surveyed the property and plant evergreens. It also recommended the purchase of the property adjoining the springs uphill from the reservoir.

Real Estate in Central New York – Syracuse, Onondaga County
The Central New York region has been one of the best in the country in terms of the Real Estate. The Real Estate Market in the Central New York region has been the picture of stability in a time when volatility has been a common feature of Real Estate Markets around the US. The recession has hit the people hard in pockets and the purchasing power has decreased rapidly. The demand for homes and properties has gone down correspondingly.

The collapse of the lending institutions has brought about a decrease in the borrowing that people do. Many who had taken a loan or any other credit to buy a house had to deal with foreclosure. Even in this devastating economic climate, the Central New York Real Estate Market, particularly Onondaga County Real Estate has been able to maintain some of the lowest number of foreclosures in the country, which is remarkable putting everything into perspective.

Syracuse New York is a major metropolitan city in the Central New York Region. It is the only large city in the County of Onondaga and the Real Estate Market in Syracuse has been successful over the past few years instead of going down. Most of the metropolitan areas in the country have become very expensive to live in. This has made it difficult, for some impossible, to buy a home. Not so in Central New York.

Syracuse has been a major contributor to the sustainability of the Central New York Real Estate Market. According to the data provided by the National Association of Homebuilders, Syracuse is ranked as one of the top metropolitan cities in terms of housing affordability. You can easily buy an affordable home for yourself in Syracuse.

Finding homes in Syracuse is easy when visiting any of Dave Pridgen’s many websites. Studying the market trends, the Syracuse Real Estate Market is expected to be a profitable one and making an investment now will not be a bad decision. The stability in the Syracuse Real Estate Market ensures that any property you buy will not diminish in value in the foreseeable future.

On the contrary, as the financial markets recover from the ongoing recession, Real Estate prices around the country, in less stable areas, are unpredictable. As mentioned above, the Syracuse Real Estate Market has some of the most affordable homes in the USA and you don’t need to give an arm and a leg to get one for yourself. This is great news for people who are looking to move to Syracuse in the near future.

The Central New York Real Estate Market is one of the best options for anyone wanting to buy a home for their family or making your Real Estate Investment portfolio grow.
